Can you tell us a little about Luminary?

Luminary is a professional education and networking platform, as well as a community space focused on supporting women and their allies.We offer our Members access to expert and member-led programming, services, and content, as well as amenities including our work and social space in NYC, a global virtual community, and Luminary’s international Partner Network of women-forward communities - providing professional education, networking, and resources to address the unique challenges women face across all industries. Our mission is to uplift, up-skill, and empower at every phase of the professional journey.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

As the Head of Data, Insights, and Technology, my day-to-day responsibilities include managing and optimizing our technology platforms, overseeing data collection and reporting, and ensuring seamless integration across our systems. I also focus on enhancing the overall member experience through data-driven insights while supporting operations.

How did Luminary get started?

Luminary was founded in 2018 when our CEO & Founder, Cate Luzio, had a vision to create a dedicated space to foster connection, learning, and growth. Recognizing the systemic challenges women face in their careers, our founder wanted to build a community that offers real-world advice, tools, and resources. Starting with a single location in NYC, we quickly expanded to include a global virtual community, reflecting the demand for our inclusive and supportive environment.

What have been some key factors in Luminary’s growth?

Several key factors have contributed to our growth. Firstly, our unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion has resonated deeply with our members and is a driving force behind all that we do. Secondly, our comprehensive range of resources and programs, from networking events to professional development workshops, continues to attract a diverse group of people. Lastly, our ability to adapt and expand our services, including virtual memberships and enhanced technology platforms – like the acquisition of the Cru - has allowed us to reach a broader audience and meet the evolving needs of our community.

What do you use MoonClerk for?

We use MoonClerk to process and manage our Member subscriptions. To ensure we remain as inclusive as possible, we need to be adaptable and flexible, and MoonClerk enables us to provide that support for our Community. 

What problems did you have with your previous payment system before MoonClerk?

Before MoonClerk, we tried out a few different platforms that just did not allow us the flexibility to meet our Members’ needs. Things like pauses, coupons, updating payment methods, or adjusting billing rates were time-consuming tasks. MoonClerk has certainly saved us valuable time while providing a better experience for all involved. 

What specific feature do you like most about MoonClerk?

We love the ease and cleanliness of MoonClerk’s platform that makes it user-friendly and quick for our staff to pick up on processes. MoonClerk’s intuitive design and straightforward interface mean that our team can manage payments efficiently without a steep learning curve. This simplicity saves us time and ensures that our payment processes run smoothly, allowing us to focus more on our members and their needs.

I appreciate the ability to easily export data, which makes tracking and reporting seamless. The customizability of forms and coupons allows us to tailor the payment experience to fit our unique needs, enhancing member satisfaction. Additionally, the notes and comments section is incredibly useful for keeping track of specific payment details and internal communications, to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

How has MoonClerk helped your business?

MoonClerk has significantly streamlined our payment processes, making it easier for both our staff and our members. Anecdotally, we offer an option for our Members to pause their membership while traveling, an option that roughly 38% of our members have taken advantage of and is only possible because of MoonClerk. This flexibility has improved member satisfaction and helped maintain strong retention rates.
